INFORMATION TO ALL BUSINESSES AND PERSONS INTERESTED IN PROMOTING UNION HALL AS A TOURISM DESTINATION

HELP UNION HALL FLOURISH

The Tourism Information Office on board Julia will be open to passengers on the ship during the coming months and the West Cork Tourism Co-Op is asking for your help to man the office during the busy sailings. The busiest sailings will of course be at the weekend and we would need people to travel on Thursday nights from Cork to cover the Friday night sailing from Swansea and also ideally shareholders from the Welsh side to cover the Saturday night sailings to Swansea.

You will be required to man the office from approx. 6.30 p.m. until 11.30 p.m. and to provide information on shareholders' tourism products in Ireland and Wales. If you are interested can you please email Paul O'Brien at paul.obrien@fastnetline.com or leave a message with your name and telephone number on 087 178 4294 and we will begin contacting you next week.

Accommodation Booking on fastnetline.com

Fastnet Line is looking to introduce shortly an accommodation booking engine on its website www.fastnetline.com The Co-Op is asking any shareholders who have accommodation businesses and who wish to include their accommodation on the booking engine to initially indicate their interest by way of email to paul.obrien@fastnetline.com

Further details on commission and costs will be given to anyone interested and also how the accommodation will be managed. It is thought at this stage that each provider will manage their own rooms/properties themselves online.

Shareholders with Retail Businesses

Attention any shareholder with a retail business in Ireland. The Co-Op is teaming up with new business Savie Card to provide discounted shopping offers to holders of the Savie Card. Retailers will be contacted by Savie Card over the coming weeks and this is being supported strongly by the Co-Op and Fastnet Line. The card will be sold on the Julia to the thousands of holidaymakers who travel this summer and the passengers will be directed to participating businesses.

It is hoped in this way that Fastnet Line will start to drive shoppers to your business in Ireland this summer. Anyone who is interested in the scheme can contact founder of Savie Card, Brandy Ahern on hello@saviecard.com or 086 3068848

Please Help Save Glandore Church

As you may have noticed the tower of the Kilfaughnabeg Church of Ireland, Glandore, has cladding all around it in order to prevent masonry from falling on visitors. If remedial action isn’t taken this winter to repair it there is a very real risk that it will collapse.

A cross-community committee has been formed to try and raise the money necessary to save the tower and thus the Church. There is a strong feeling in the village that such an iconic landmark, accessed through an archway carved in the rockface, should be preserved for future generations.

At the same time the committee is going to consider new ways in which the building can be used by the community. Ideas being considered include art exhibitions, flower shows, concerts, plays and educational programmes.

Kilfaughnabeg Church - the little church of Fachtna - was consecrated on the 12th September 1861. Part of its charm is that it has never been modernized (there is no electricity, water or heat). It would be a tragedy if this important and beautiful landmark is allowed to fall into ruin.

The estimated cost of saving the tower is €80,000. This is the most urgent part of the project. As a secondary stage a further €120,000 will be needed to save the rest of the Church.
